Intro:
So you want to create a Personal Website?
Great!
Let me first make it clear what I mean by a Personal Website.
This is a Website that is made to represent YOU. That means that you have full control over what you do on there, if you want to make it a Blog, a gallery of your favourite photos, or just a hub that you can direct people towards so they can find out more about you or how best to contact you.
How to create the Website:
Ok. Now that you know you want to create a website, it can seem scary to begin.
But don't worry. It is actually super easy.
There are 4 easy steps:
Setup
Design
What to write about
How to grow
Setup
This is actually super easy. All you need to do is first, get a Domain (visit either Googledomains or Godaddy), this can just be your name (like me with: www.niklasseibold.com).
And second you need to find a hosting service. For this (and as a personal website) I would recommend Wix or Squarespace (they are both super easy and simple to use and you can have your website up and running within an hour).
Finally once you have linked your domain to your hosting platform, you can move on to the next step.
Design
This, for me, was always the part where I would get overwhelmed and not know where to start.
But its also actually super easy. All you need is 3 pages:
Blog | About | Contact
That's it.
Do not overthink it, just make those 3 pages, and you will be set. You can always add a more complex design later, the most important thing right now is to just get started.
What to write about
This is easy:
ANYTHING
yup, its your Blog, you can write about whatever you want!
I would suggest 2 Golden Rules though.
It's about something that you are interested in
Ask yourself: "Could this be useful to someone else"
If you stick to those 2 rules, then you will have a great time with your blog, and people will enjoy reading it, since they will be gaining value from it.
How to grow
Finally, you might also want to grow your community, so you can spread your message, connect with more people, and potentially earn some money in the future.
For this, there are 2 key things to do.
First, consistency.
Publish a new Blog post every single week for 2 years and you will get somewhere.
Second, use your social media as a tool.
Almost every one of us has at least a few dozen - a few hundred people that they could easily reach by just telling them!
So every time you write a blog post, post about it on your social media, like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn!
But most importantly. Don't focus on getting a massive following, FOCUS ON THE CONTENT, and the community will grow.
Summary:
Alright, so now you have a website, know what to write about, and have committed to writing on it every single week!
The next thing you should do is let me know about your website, or your thoughts to this post, either in the comments below or via any of these channels: Contact
If this post helped you create a website, please let me know in the comments because that would make my day!
I will be posting more about website creation in the future, so stay tuned for that :)
Thank you for reading,
Have a great day my Friends,
Peace,
Niklas
