A Wise man once said:
"Without a Goal, you can't Score." - Casey Neistat
What this means to me is that you need to know where you want to go & what you want to achieve, before you can Do it.
This is pretty simple... but Powerful!
Because once you understand this, you can start to define a roadmap, a path if you will, towards the aforementioned Goals, Dreams, and Aspirations.
So, I created a system for myself, that I put into action consciously Every Single Day to make sure that I am on track and progressing towards my dream Life.
I call this system the "365 Awesome Days" list.
This is it:
How it works
On the left you have a tabular Calendar for the Year with a box for every day.
Then on the right you have space to right down your Overall Goals for the year (Top right), and then you Break each of these down into simple DAILY ACTIONS that you can complete (Bottom right).
Then, Every Single Day, you look at the tasks throughout the day, and DO them!
Then, at the end of the Day, you check off the day if you complete all of the tasks.
And if you don't, well then you forgive yourself and get back to it the Next Day!
Why it works
Thats it. It's super simple.
And in this simplicity lies its greatest strength.
This is because when you try to change your Life in big ways, like with new years resolutions, it is such a daunting process and such big changes that, I'm sure you know this, most people only stick to then for a few weeks or months at Best!
Since these Big Goals for the year are broken down into simple, actionable tasks, you can actually do them!
Ok, now there are 3 other reasons why this sort of system works, and Could work for YOU!
The Power of Writing Down
When you think and dream about what the future could be like, your mind is great at thinking of all the possibilities, and ideas about what to do! However, there is a big jump between thinking, and doing.
When you physically put your thoughts and plans on paper (or on an app haha), it is a jump closer towards actually doing it, and in a way makes you feel like the plan is more "real".
2. The Power of Consistent Action
This is a big topic, and I am discovering more about this myself, but basically:
Whenever you have a big Goal (Money, Health, Happiness), the only realistic way to achieve it is by breaking it down into smaller tasks, that you can DO:
For example, lets say you want to Run a Marathon!
Now for most people, it is completely unrealistic to just get up and run a whole marathon straight away.
NO!
Instead, we break down this big goal into a training program, so that we can build up the strength and endurance to run a marathon!
These ideas can be applied to anything!
When you break down your big goals into daily Actions, you start making progress towards them!
3. The power of Accountability
Whilst those big dreams we all have within us, where no-one is there to make us achieve them, just kind of sit there, in our minds?
Well, when you have a list of tasks to do every day, and a checklist where you can see how often you have done them, if motivates you, and holds you accountable to Keep doing the tasks, EVERY DAY!
How can this Help YOU?
If you like the idea of achieving your Goals, I would suggest that you start by writing them down somewhere you can see them.
And ideally create some sort of system, or use this, to break these goals into daily (maybe also weekly and monthly) actions, so you start making Progress!
