Intro:
Everyone wants to achieve their Goals in Life, but many of us don't know HOW!
And so we either worry about the fact that we aren't achieving them, or we look at different ways of getting closer to our goals, via to do lists, getting a clear idea of what we even want from Life, or spending lots of time "planning" to get started.
But all of those miss the mark.
Because it's so simple.
The key to achieving your goals is to get them in sight, and then work towards them.
Procrastination:
Spending loads of time thinking about how you will get started is actually (and this is a recent revelation for me haha) simply another form of Procrastination.
If you haven't heard of Procrastination before, here's the definition:
procrastination /prə(ʊ)ˌkrastɪˈneɪʃ(ə)n/
noun
the action of delaying or postponing something.
Oh Procrastination, my old nemesis. I have struggled so much with you over the years.
You know the feeling right?
When you know you have work to do, and you know that you are going to do it... but just not right now...
Procrastination can, if you aren't aware of it, seriously hinder you from progressing towards your goals, or even stop you from doing the things you have to do.
People often procrastinate because they're afraid of failing at the tasks that they need to complete. ... Rather, fear of failure promotes procrastination primarily when it reduces people's sense of autonomy, or when people feel incapable of dealing with a task that they're afraid to fail at.
And the thing is, procrastination, whilst being stressful, is very much contained and manageable if the thing you are procrastinating about has a deadline. Because yes you may have a stressful last few days, hours, or minutes. But the work gets done.
Where Procrastination really causes the damage, is in the Long term, non-deadline based things, such as achieving your own goals.
No one is going to tell you when you need to read that book about self development, no one is going to force you to start that business so you can be your own boss and free yourself from the job that you hate.
And that is exactly where you need to CHOOSE to overcome procrastination and get started TODAY.
Not tomorrow, not next week. NOW.
Because we only ever have the Now.
If you say you will start next week, that won't work. Next week never comes. We only live in the Here and Now.
So unless you are able to Start, and consistently take action towards your goals, you will never achieve them.
How to start achieving your dreams:
To start achieving your dreams, you need to do 3 things:
Motivation
Define your Goals
Figure out what you need to do every day to achieve them
Motivation
This is made up of 2 things for me.
Passion, and Discipline.
Figure out why you even want to achieve your dream life.
Do you want to create a safe world for you or your family, do you want to race around in fast cars with your friends. Figure out why that burning thing inside you, that is making you want to achieve your dreams, is there.
Then there is Discipline.
Basically you need to have the mental strength to decide that you want to do whatever needs doing to get where you want to go. And the way that you develop that strength is by repeatedly doing exactly that. Then through a positive feedback loop you will find it easier and easier to keep it up.
2. Define your Goals
"When a man does not know what harbour he is making for, no wind is the right wind." Seneca.
I you don't know what you want to achieve, there is a 0% chance that you will achieve it.
Seems obvious right? But just make sure you know what you want to achieve.
3. Figure out what you need to do every day to achieve them
There are many ways of doing this.
I would recommend creating a roadmap of things that you need to do (basically breaking down your goals into smaller chunks), setting deadlines for when you "need" to do those tasks by, and then planning what you need to do every day, week, and month.
Finally. You just have to do it.
Once you have figured out a general plan, and precise daily tasks for achieving your goals, the only thing left to do is to get to work.
Summary:
Thank you for reading, I hope you gained some value about how to beat productivity.
This is a topic I will be taking more about in the future, so let me know what you think in the comments below!
Have a great day my Friends,
Peace,
